Many of us have made new year resolutions to keep good healthy skin and beauty habits and though it might be tough, I will be with you guys every step of the way.

Today, I will be focusing on the basic skin care tips to achieving a flawless complexion.

Basic Skincare You Should Know:



Basic skincare day routine:
1. Cleanse (morning and evening)
2. Toner
3. Moisturizer
4. Sun protection (prevents any pigmentation from forming).



Weekly routine:
1. Exfoliate (once or twice per week). This ensures that all the dead skin cells are
removed from the surface of your skin and it also improves your skin circulation.
2. Mask (once or twice per week, depending on your skin type and the type of mask.)

TYPES OF EYE SHAPES AND MAKE UP APPLICATION TIPS

The eyes are a particular feature that determines the extent of attractiveness for many ladies. A survey was carried out by me and it was gathered that 7 out of each 10 men found a ladies eyes to be the facial feature that attracted them the most. From this we can see that the importance of beautiful eyes can never be underestimated.

When determining your eye shape, there are two classes to consider and they include:

Physical Eye Shape

• Almond Shaped Eyes
• Oval Shaped Eyes
• Round Eyes

Eye Placement Shape

• Hooded Eyes
• Wide-Set Eyes
• Prominent Eyes
• Deep-Set Eyes
• Close-Set Eyes
• Drooping Eyes
• Standard Eyes/ Evenly spaced eyes

Makeup Tips for Eye Shapes

Each of the three physical eye shapes - almond, oval, and round, can be beautiful, but if the shape is strongly defined, you can maximize the beauty of the eye with various eye makeup tricks. For example, although almond eyes are considered a very pleasing shape, a narrow almond can make eyes appear small, and while round eyes often have the advantage of appearing large, the horizontal width can make them appear disproportionate.

Fortunately, eye makeup can create a design to maximize the beauty of your eyes!

• Almond Eyes: This eye shape is characterized by an upswept outer corner. Many women with this eye shape want to increase the depth and intensity of their eyes, so experiment with eyeliner as a bold sweep on the upper lid, neutral colors lining under the eye, and upper and lower liner in various shades. To help almond eyes appear larger, limit liner to the outer portion of the top lid. To make almond eyes appear more round, stop liner before the outer corner of the eye, or use a lighter shade or smoky or smudged look in that area.  For Example: Genevive Nnaji

• Round Eyes: This eye shape if often large, and open-looking, and many women like to use makeup to elongate the eye. Use darker liner to slightly extend beyond the eyelid at the outer corners to give this illusion. Use a medium shade of eye shadow on the eyelid (up to the crease) and extend the shade slightly both slightly up toward the brow bone and slightly down toward the lower lid to create a more elongated eye appearance.

• Oval Eyes: To give an oval eye an illusion of more height, use liner to create a thin line at the outer corner and gradually thicken towards the middle of the eye. Continue in slightly towards the inner corner, reducing again to a fine line. If your eyes are small, skip the lower liner; otherwise draw a very fine line under the lower lashes.

Hooded Eyes

Hooded eyes, sometimes also referred to as "bedroom eyes" appear as if the eye lid is partially closed. Hooded eyes often need more prominence, so to give this illusion:

1. Use a light highlight shade on brow bone and inner corner along lash line.
2. Apply an eye shadow shade slightly darker than the highlight shade over the entire lid and hooded area of the eye.
3. Use a darker contour shade on the outer corner, sweeping up to a light peak.
4. Finish with a liner to define the lash lines.

 Wide-Set Eyes

Wide-set eyes are spaced out in the face, and the goal is typically to bring the eyes closer together for a more proportionate look. This can be achieved by:

1. Using a highlight shade on the central portion of the upper lid.
2. Use a medium shadow up to the brow bone from the inner corner outward, finishing in inward slant.
3. With a darker shade, shade the edge of the upper lid and the outer crease.
4. Apply liner to focus on the center and inward corner of the eye - this gives the illusion of drawing the eye closer together.

Alternatively, eyes that appear close together can be brought out by using a light shade on the inner corner and most of the lid and a medium shade from the middle of the brow bone and sweeping outward. The darker contour color should outer corner and blend up and out toward the edge of the brow line.

Prominent Eyes

For prominent or convex eye shapes, makeup can help reduce the appearance if bulging, or bugging out. To make the eye appear as if it is receding a bit more into the face, use a dark shade of eye shadow near the lash line and base of the lid. Use a slightly lighter shade for the crease, and blend outward towards the brow bone.

ANNE HATHEWAY(AMERICAN ACTRESS): PERFECT EXAMPLE OF PROMINENT EYES

Deep-Set Eyes

For example: Lynette from desperate housewives

The opposite of prominent eyes, deep-set eyes recede back into the sockets. Ideas to bring them out with makeup:

1. Lighten the inner corner and entire lid with shadow.
2. Use a medium shadow above the crease and gently apply it across the bottom of the brow bone.
3. Use a darker contour shade only at the outer crease and dip slightly outward.
4. Keep liner, especially on the upper lid, thin.

PERFECT EXAMPLE OF DEEP-SET EYES (RANDOM INDIVIDUAL)

Drooping Eyes

Although drooping eyes that slope downward can be seen at any age, this is sometimes the look of mature eyes of other shapes as well. To make eyes appear livelier:

• Apply a light shade in an oval shape on the lid and inner corner.
• Follow with a medium shade that stops slightly before the edge of the brow.
• Finish with a dense patch of shadow in and slightly above the outer crease that extends toward the brow. 
• Use liner in lower lash line, but keep the line light, and stop before the outer corner.

Standard Eyes/Evenly spaced eyes  

These are about an eye's distance apart. Most make up looks works with this eye placement type as it is considered perfect.

Looking Your Best while Applying make up: Knowing your Face Shape

Today, i bring u another sensational piece of knowledge, and that is knowing your face shape. Many Nigerian women today, when asked do not know their face shapes and this is very wrong as it is absolutely necessary to know ur face shape because it determines how good u look, as it helps one in chosing the right hair styles, applying make up right and looking ur utmost best in general.

In this blog, i will be discussing the various female face shapes, giving u some examples and suggesting the most flattering hair styles for the various shapes.


Female Face Shapes:
There are 8 basic types of face shapes and they include;

• Rectangular
• Oblong
• Oval
• Diamond
• Triangle
• Inverted Triangle or Heart
• Square
• Round

Rectangle

Main characteristics...

• Your face is definitely longer than wide
  
• Your jaw is broad and your jaw-line is square
  
• The sides of your face are straight -- your forehead, cheekbones and jaw-line are the same width
  
• Your hairline is most likely straight
  Celebrity Example: Sarah jessica parker, Julia Roberts
  Hair style secrets:
  
  • Go for Bangs/Fringes as it helps to shorten the face.
  • Chin length bobs add width and softens the jaw line and so this makes it an ideal hair style.
  • Stay away from very long or very short hairstyles as this just aids in enlongating the face.
  • Stay away from centre parts as this also elongates the face, rather go for side parts.
   

Oblong

Main characteristics...

• Your face is definitely longer than wide
  
• Your jaw-line is softly rounded
  
• The sides of your face are straight -- your forehead, cheekbones and jaw-line are the same width
  
• Your hairline may be rounded

  • The tips for rectangular face shape applies for this shape too.

• Your face is slightly longer than wide
  
• Your jaw-line is slightly rounded
  
• The outline of your face is an inverted egg-shape -- your face is widest at the cheekbones. Your forehead is fairly broad (broader than you jaw)
  
• Your face can be divided into 3 equal horizontal sections between the hairline, eyebrows, end of nose and chin
  
• Your eyes are evenly spaced, with one eye width distance between them
  
• Your face has no extreme characteristics. For example you do not have very small or very large eyes, mouth or nose.

  • This is the most balanced face shape therefore any hair style can work with it.

• Your cheekbones are the widest part of your face. They are often high and pointed

  Hair Style Secret:
  
  • Shoulder length hair with wispy bangs suit this shape most because it creates balance.
  • Curly layered cuts also suit this shape very well.
  • Avoid hairstyles that leave no hair at the neck or chin area.

The only difference between the inverted triangle and the heart shaped faces are that the heart has a widows peak.

• Your forehead is the widest part of your face, or the same width as your cheekbones

  • Very long hairstyles suit this shape best as their angular features are not overshadowed while keeping it fresh and chic.

• Your jaw-line is round and full
  
• Your cheekbones are the widest part of your face and round

  Hair Style Secrets:
  
  • Keep hair in layers and must be at least shoulder length and helps in reducing width.

Determining Your Face Shape

Before attempting to discover the very best accessories and hairstyles for you, it is necessary to find out your face shape. You will need measuring tape, pen and paper to properly record your findings.

Step 1
Measure the area of your face horizontally just above your cheekbones.

Step 2
Locate the widest point of your jaw and measure horizontally from point to point.

Step 3
Locate the widest point of your forehead and measure horizontally from point to point.

Step 4
Measure from the center of your hairline to the bottom of your chin vertically.

Step 5
To determine your face shape, compare your measurements to the descriptions above.
